The influence of the CIELAB parameters on the perception of color after the use of whitening toothpastes

Aim: To evaluate the influence of parameters L* a* b* on variation color bovine tooth enamel submitted to artificial darkening, after simulated brushing, with whitening toothpastes containing blue covarine. Methods: undertake this study in vitro, 60 specimens (SP) were divided into 6 groups (n=10): control group (CGwater) and 5 test (GT1-Colgate Total 12, GT2-Oral-B 3D White Perfection, GT3- Colgate Luminous Instant White, GT4-CloseUp Diamond Attraction, GT5-Sorriso Xtreme White). The darkened coffee brushing for 6, 24 months. alteration was evaluated using CIELAB ΔL, Δa, Δb ΔE calculated. data analyzed through generalized linear models R program considering a level significance 5%. Results: L*, Δa obtained better results than group. There no statistical differences between CG evaluation parameter. In Δb, GT3 differed statistically from CG. relation ΔE, all tests showed greater that GT4 greatest variation, not differing during periods studied. Conclusion: mechanical optical agents positively influenced values L*a* b*, as well its variations ΔE. It is important emphasize, however, analyze it necessary their together.
